Mental Wellbeing and Access

Enabling people to receive care and treatment as quickly and conveniently as possible by providing more and better primary care services

Who is the function for?

Our Mental Wellbeing and Access Function teams work closely with GPs and their team to provide a service that is easily accessible for:

  • People presenting with a mental health problem for the first time who need more help than their GP can provide
  • People who have previously used special mental health services and need further help
  • People experiencing common mental health problems
  • People experiencing a potential first episode psychosis

What services do the Mental Wellbeing and Access teams provide?

We provide services that respond to the needs of each person, whether they are a new referral or someone who has received care from us previously.

We offer specialist assessment, consultation and advice between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday and link with our other network function teams to respond outside if these hours.

Our Specialist Teams for Early Psychosis (STEP) focus on caring for people who are experiencing the symptoms of psychosis for the first time. Typically, these are younger people and the team work with each person to help them manage their symptoms and support them in their daily lives.

In partnership with a number of providers a range of Psychological Therapies depending on the needs of each person. These will follow nationally agreed best practice and NICE and CSIP guidance are best described.
